De scènes in The Return of the King waarbij Aragorn, Legolas en Gimli langs de Dimholt Road rijden om het Army of the Dead te ontmoeten, werden gefilmd tegen de surrealistische achtergrond van de Putangirua Pinnacles. Het is hier niet gelukt om de locaties exact te achterhalen. Mogelijk heeft het continue proces van erosie daar iets mee te maken.
