Filmlocaties - The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (8)

Uiteindelijk was het nog vrij lastig om uit de vele foto's die we hebben gemaakt de juiste stukjes te selecteren die in de films zijn gebruikt. De bergketen die op de achtergrond van het plaatje uit de film is te zien is ook te zien op de foto's die we tijdens de eerste tussenstop van onze excursie hebben gemaakt. Het is duidelijk niet exact de juiste plek want van de berg rechts op het filmbeeld is slechts een klein stukje zichtbaar op onze foto.

Deze plaats ligt direct aan Lake Wakatipu, en bereik ja al een paar minuten nadat je Queenstown hebt verlaten.

In de film zit een gevecht tussen Frodo en de Uruk-Hai. Een deel daarvan is hier opgenomen.

North Mavora Lake is in The Fellowship of the Ring het meer Nen Hithoel, meer van vele nevels. Op het eerste plaatje zie je meteen dat er flink digitaal is gesleuteld om het beeld compleet te krijgen voor de film.

We hebben een hele tijd door het bos gelopen op zoek naar de exacte locaties voor deze scènes. Ze waren moeilijk te vinden en er is in de 20 jaar sinds de opnames natuurlijk ook het een en ander veranderd in het bos.

Deze scène zit niet in de bioscoopversie van de film, maar staat wel op de dvd die een half uur extra materiaal bevat. We zouden deze plek zelf nooit gevonden hebben. Je kon de boom vanaf het pad zien, maar er is gefilmd vanaf de andere kant in de richting van het pad en die twee kanten zien er toch een beetje verschillend uit. We hebben hier zelf ook nog een 'acteerprestatie' geleverd.

De afbeeldingen hierboven laten al zien dat er digitaal veel is toegevoegd in dit geval.

De scène hieronder is een beetje een bijzonder geval. Ze hebben in Upper Hutt in het Harcourt Park gefilmd en er een achtergrond bijgeplakt die van het Zuidereiland komt. De achtergrond bestaat uit bergen die in werkelijkheid bij Paradise, een gehucht op ongeveer een uurtje rijden van Queenstown, liggen.

Het was een lange rit van Stratford naar het Kaitoke Regional Park dat in Lord of the Rings diende als locatie voor Rivendell. Een groot deel van de route was over een hele smalle weg waar je hoopte niet te veel tegenliggers tegen te komen. 

De locaties zijn wat lastig te herkennen omdat er in de film natuurlijk het een en ander digitaal is toegevoegd. We zijn wel een beetje geholpen door de informatieborden ter plekke.

De poort van de volgende scène is later nagebouwd en op deze plek gezet. De poort is niet helemaal identiek aan het origineel uit de film.

Tovenaar Gandalf bezoekt Hobbitstee (Hobbiton) om de 111de verjaardag van hobbit Bilbo Baggins te vieren. 

Voordat Gandalf arriveert zijn enkele sfeerbeelden van de Gouw te zien, waaronder tuinman Sam Gewissies voor zijn huisje en de weide met de grote boom waar de voorbereidingen voor het feest in volle gang zijn.

Gandalf rijdt samen met Frodo door de Hobbitstee. Aan de andere kant van de brug ligt The Green Dragon Inn (herberg De Groene Draak). Binnenopnamen werden allemaal in de studio in Wellington gemaakt maar speciaal voor bezoekers aan Hobbiton is in 2012 een kopie van het interieur gebouwd. 

Hieronder is te zien hoe lastig het was om filmlocaties te fotograferen zonder dat er massa's andere toeristen op stonden.

De eikenboom bovenop het huisje van Bilbo Baggins, is niet echt maar gemaakt van glasvezel. De blaadjes zijn met de hand beschilderd en één voor één aan de takken bevestigd.
